Lydia Roberts
Lydia is a young emerging Photographer who continues to be inspired by things close to her everyday experience. Her early work as a teenager drew inspiration from her childhood in Swindon and chronicled the emergence of a young teenage girl into an adult world where one could banish the neurosis and anxieties of adolescence. Her Photography was, initially, a form of escape and provided a language to translateher personal agitations into a new visual language which made sense of herself. Self portraiture and introspection was the start of a journey which, through constant enquiry and examination explored the possibilities and limitations of her own appearance to a more confident individual. It no longer kept life at arms length and, by introducing intimate and personal scenarios, natural occurrences, unplanned events and honest representation (often with mirrored reflection), led her into unchartered territory. This has been further developed through her work with collage and salorised images, masks, glass screens, smoke and mirrors.
